That,s right, I'm an All American Boy and I love my country. I served this country in the US Army and I would give my life to defend her against all attackers. However, I do feel that our governing parties are getting a bit carried away. I feel that they are trying to control way too many of our rights, safety and our emotions. I am not choosing any one part, group or lifestyle but I am speaking for them all.
To start with, the government has chosen to target the smokers with the highest tax on any single product ever. It is through the claim that smoking is bad for everyone. This may be so, but targeting a single group in an attempt to stop smoking is not right and it is definitely the most unfair tax yet. Whether I smoke or not is not the point here it is the idea that only one group is being forced to pay through their tax for things like health insurance for children. I'm all for children's health insurance, but I think the nonsmokers who have children should also pay. Some smokers don't even have children and still have to pay. This cannot be a fair tax. The Government has, in some states, invoked a tax they call a snack tax. A tax applied to every bag of potato chips you buy. Every package of cookies and all other quick snacks. This is a tax on top of the state tax already in place. There is now in congress a bill they refer to as the FAT TAX bill. That's right, a FAT TAX. A tax on anything that may cause you to gain a pound or two. By imposing a fat tax the claim is that it will curb our nations obesity. A Fat TAx will not only effect those who are overweight but al so those who are underweight. Where do you draw the line? I will admit we sometimes do have an obesity problem, but isn't it our problem? It seems to me that if the reason for these taxes is for our own good shouldn't some of the money collected be used for the problem the tax represents. I mean if they want people to stop smoking use some of the tax dollar to find a stop smoking program that works. We all know that the programs available now do not always work. Only about 1% of those who try are successful. And for the obesity problem, there are thousands of diet and "get skinny" programs available and as we can see, they don't all work either. Most of the people who try them find it almost impossible to stick to the rules. Again, most of them fail but still cost money. If there is to be a "FAT TAX" then use some of the tax dollars to perfect a weight loss program that works. Maybe even use some of the money to ban those proven worthless. Put the tax dollars to work for the purpose from which they were collected. And another thing, why should our Congressmen and our Senators and state Governors concern themselves with things like my weight? I would think it might be a better thing if Congress were to concentrate more on the problems with the economy and the defense of our great country than on our health and safety. The government has determined that we must wear a seatbelt when driving our car. Click it or ticket. I agree that seatbelts are a good thing but I don't need someone standing there telling me I have to wear it. We also cannot drink and drive. Well, that is a good one I am in favor of but I know for a fact that those who stop us and give us a ticket or haul us off to jail drink behind the wheel of their own vehicle. I have witnessed this with my own eyes. The safety features are all for the good but they should be asked for and not ordered. It is the absurd taxes that I find to be so wrong. It seems as though every time our government wants a vacation or find a new need for dollars they dream up another ridiculous tax to place on those who pay their wages already. Oh, I forgot. We need those taxes to pay for all the "bailouts" our leaders have been giving out. I guess someone has to pay for all those bonuses which are due to those who got us into all this trouble. Do you really think we should give billions of taxpayers dollars to those who got us into the mess we are in. I know it is just my opinion but I think if we are expected to bailout someone or something it should be with new people at the helm. People who can figure out the reason for the destructive results of before. Don't give someone more money for doing a lousy job. It just does not make sense. If you are going to give my tax dollars to someone make sure it is someone who can tell which way the arrow is pointing. Ok, I am through with my thoughts for the moment. This article may not even get published but I have gotten it off my chest. If you have a comment tell me about it. Either way. {jomcomment} |
